Biography of Mike Myers

Early Life and Career

Mike Myers is a Canadian-American actor, comedian, screenwriter, and film producer. He is best known for his roles as Wayne Campbell in the film "Wayne's World" and as Austin Powers and Dr. Evil in the "Austin Powers" trilogy, as well as for voicing Shrek in the animated film series of the same name. Myers' parents are from Liverpool, England, and he has English, Scottish, and Irish roots. At the age of 9, Myers appeared in his first commercial. He graduated from Stephen Leacock High School in 1982 and joined a comedy troupe in Toronto. In the early 1980s, Myers frequently appeared with various roles, including as Wayne Campbell, on Toronto's Citytv in the alternative video show "City Limits." In 1985, he was one of the leading actors at the Comedy Store in London. The following year, he appeared on the British children's television show Wide Awake Club, parodying the show with his own "Sound Asleep Club." Myers became well-known as a cast member on NBC's "Saturday Night Live" from 1989 to 1995. In 1992, his character Wayne Campbell appeared on the big screen in the feature film "Wayne's World," which became one of the most successful films of the year. A less successful sequel followed the next year. In 1997, Myers introduced Austin Powers in the film "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery," in which he played multiple supporting characters in addition to the lead role. In 1999, he starred in his first non-comedic role in the film "Studio 54," where he played the owner of the famous New York City discotheque of the 1970s. The film was quite successful, and Myers' performance received high praise. Later, Myers parodied this club with "Studio 69" in the 2002 film "Austin Powers in Goldmember." Myers ended up voicing Shrek due to a series of circumstances: originally, the role was supposed to be voiced by Chris Farley, but he passed away in December 1997, and the creators of "Shrek" turned to Myers.
