Billie Eilish: A Musical Prodigy

Early Life

Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O'Connell was born in Highland Park, Los Angeles, on December 18, 2001, to Maggie Baird and Patrick O'Connell. Her parents worked in the entertainment industry, and she has Irish and Scottish ancestry. Eilish was homeschooled and joined the Los Angeles Children's Chorus at age 8. At age 11, she began writing songs, inspired by her older brother Finneas (born 1997), who had his own band.

Career

Rise to Prominence:

Eilish had a long-standing interest in dance but suffered an injury in January 2016 that ended her dance career abruptly. In October 2015, she recorded the song "Ocean Eyes," initially written by her brother for his band. Her dance teacher helped her choreograph a routine to the song.

Released as her debut single in 2016 on SoundCloud, "Ocean Eyes" gained immense popularity, attracting the attention of record labels Darkroom and Interscope Records. The song was subsequently re-released by the labels.

Debut Album and Critical Acclaim:

Eilish's debut EP, "Don't Smile at Me," was released in August 2017. It reached the top 15 in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia, spawning the hit single "Bellyache." She also collaborated with American singer Khalid on the single "Lovely," released in April 2018 and featured on the soundtrack of the second season of "13 Reasons Why."

On March 29, 2019, Eilish released her debut studio album, "When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?" The album debuted at number one in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia. The singles "When the Party's Over," "Bury A Friend," and "Bad Guy" reached the top 15 in the US, with "Bad Guy" topping the charts in Canada and Australia.

Personal Life

Eilish has been diagnosed with Tourette syndrome.
