Early Career

Birgit Prinz began her football career at the youth club SV Dörnigheim FC. Her talent was quickly recognized, and in 1998, she joined the renowned German club FFC Frankfurt.

FC Frankfurt Success

At FFC Frankfurt, Prinz enjoyed a remarkable 13-year career. She helped the team win seven domestic titles, including the Bundesliga championship and the German Cup. Individually, she received numerous accolades, including being named German Footballer of the Year from 2001 to 2008. From 2003 to 2005, she was crowned FIFA Women's World Player of the Year three times.

International Dominance

Prinz's international career with the German national team was equally impressive. She made her debut in 1994 at the age of 16. In 1995, she became the youngest player to ever play in a Women's World Cup final. In 2003, she was appointed captain of the team. Under her leadership, Germany won the World Cup in 2003 and 2007. Prinz also led the team to five UEFA Women's Championship titles.

Record-Breaking Achievements

Prinz holds the record for most goals scored in Women's World Cups, with 14 goals. She was also the all-time top scorer in Olympic history with 10 goals until being surpassed by Cristiane.

Retirement

On August 12, 2011, Prinz announced her retirement from football. She ended her career as one of the most decorated and successful female footballers of all time.
