Janis Magone was born into a Latvian peasant family on June 5, 1876. He displayed academic prowess early on, graduating with honors from the Riga Spiritual School in 1892 and the Riga Spiritual Seminary in 1898.
Clerical Career

Magone was ordained as a psalmist in 1901 and served as a teacher at the local primary school. In 1906, he was ordained as a priest at the Festen Church, later moving to the Stomerzei Parish in 1909 and the St. Alexander Nevsky Parish in Stameriena in 1913.

On July 16, 1938, Magone was consecrated as Bishop Janis of Ieriksi, the second vicar of the Latvian Orthodox Church under the jurisdiction of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople. His episcopal see was in the city of Dvinsk. Later, he became the Bishop of Madona.
