Early Life and Career in Broadcasting
Bob Goen, an American television host and actor, was born in 1954 in Long Beach, California. He graduated from the University of San Diego in 1976 with a degree in telecommunications.
In 1977, Goen began his broadcasting career at a radio station in his hometown. His university experience proved valuable, and he soon secured a job as a radio DJ at KPRO. A year later, he moved to television as a sports anchor for KESQ-TV in Palm Springs.
Hollywood Dreams and Game Show Success
After gaining experience in broadcasting, Goen ventured to Hollywood in 1981 with aspirations of starting his own show. In the meantime, he hosted several game shows, including "Perfect Match," "Home Shopping Game," "Blackout," and "The Hollywood Game."
His greatest success came with the game show "Wheel of Fortune" on CBS, which earned him two Emmy Award nominations for Best Game Show Host. "Wheel of Fortune" ran from 1989 to 1991.
"Entertainment Tonight" and Film Career
In 1993, Goen embarked on a new chapter in his career, joining the entertainment news magazine "Entertainment Tonight." For the first three years, he waited for his chance on the sidelines. In 1996, he finally replaced regular host John Tesh, who was pursuing a music career, and became the co-host alongside Mary Hart.
Between 1994 and 1996, Goen also appeared in various television projects, including the Miss Universe, Miss USA, and Miss Teen USA pageants. He starred in the films "Wicked Stepmother" (1989) and "Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius" (2001), as well as the television film "Big Break All-Star Challenge" (2006). He also had guest appearances in "Freddy's Nightmares" and "Homicide: Life on the Street."
Personal Life and Later Career
Bob Goen has been married twice. His first marriage lasted from 1988 to 1997, and they had a son in 1994. In 2004, Goen married television personality Marianne Curan. That same year, he left "Entertainment Tonight" to spend more time with his new family.
Currently, Goen hosts the entertainment trivia show "That's the Question" on GSN. In his spare time, Goen runs his golf event, "The Bob Goen Lexus Invitational," which benefits the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
