Early Life and Education
Bobby Gillespie was born on June 22, 1962, in Springburn, a district of Glasgow, Scotland. In 1973, his family moved to the southern district of Mount Florida, where Gillespie attended Kings Park Secondary School.

Musical Beginnings
Gillespie's first instrument was the bass guitar, but he later decided to focus more on his voice. In addition to singing and playing bass guitar, Gillespie was also skilled in playing the guitar, drums, and several other instruments.

The Wake and The Jesus and Mary Chain
In 1982, Gillespie joined a local rock band called The Wake as a bass guitarist, but he left the group in August 1983. His next band was another local group called The Jesus and Mary Chain, known for their noise rock style. Douglas Hart, the bassist of The Jesus and Mary Chain, was a friend of Gillespie and invited him to join the band after their original drummer left following the release of their debut single in 1984.

Primal Scream
While still a member of The Jesus and Mary Chain, Gillespie formed his own band called Primal Scream in 1982. The band's sound evolved over the years, incorporating elements of rock, alternative, and dance music. Gillespie became the lead vocalist of Primal Scream, and the band gained recognition for their energetic live performances and experimental approach to music.
