Biography of Bobby Leslie
Bobby Leslie, also known as Blaster Leslie, is an American wrestler who achieved great success in both amateur and professional wrestling.
Amateur Wrestling Career
Leslie initially began his wrestling career while attending Missouri College, where he excelled in the sport. In 1995, he finished fourth in the NCAA competition and went on to become the champion for the next three consecutive years. Additionally, in 1997 and 1998, Leslie won the NAIA championship in the 80-kilogram weight class.
After college, Leslie was enlisted into the army, where he continued his wrestling journey. He became a two-time champion of the Armed Forces and earned a silver medal in the 2002 CISM World Championship, competing against the best military wrestlers in the world. In 2003, representing the army, Leslie secured third place in the 96-kilogram freestyle wrestling category.
Professional Wrestling Career
Following his military service, Leslie caught the attention of WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) and joined OVW (Ohio Valley Wrestling). He engaged in feuds with notable wrestlers such as Ken Doane and Robert Fury. In May 2005, Leslie participated in a dark match on RAW, where he emerged victorious against Val Venis. He continued to win dark matches on both RAW and SmackDown! against Trevor Murdoch, Johnny Jeter, and Lance Cade. Leslie also teamed up with CM Punk during this time.
Leslie then returned to OVW and competed in a tournament for the OVW Television Championship. He formed an alliance with Ken Doane, Mike Mondo, and Kenny Bolin. On July 1st, they faced Jim Cornette's team, consisting of Elijah Burke, Nick Dinsmore, and Brent Albright. Leslie and Mondo also competed in a flag match against Burke, Deuce Shade, and their manager, Tommy Dreamer, but unfortunately lost. Leslie left his team when he refused to help Doane defend the Television Championship title against Nick Nemeth in an unfair manner.
On September 28th, just five days after making his debut on SmackDown!, Leslie fired Kenny Bolin and later faced an attack from Bolin and his ally Deuce Shade during a match against The Boogeyman. However, Brent Albright came to Leslie's rescue. Leslie continued his feud with Bolin's faction in OVW while performing on SmackDown! During his time on SmackDown!, Leslie impressed the audience with his performances.
Leslie defeated several wrestlers, including Simon Dean, before defeating Dean again at No Mercy and forcing him to eat twenty large cheeseburgers. He was then selected to join Team SmackDown! in a match against Team RAW at Survivor Series 2005. Leslie was the first participant to be eliminated from the match after being choked slammed by Kane.
He then feuded with Paul Burchill and William Regal, leading to Leslie's victory in a handicap match at Armageddon. Leslie later faced John "Bradshaw" Layfield at No Way Out, where he lost due to a sneak attack by Fit Finlay. On May 23rd, Bradshaw defended his United States Championship against a random opponent, who turned out to be Leslie, and Leslie became the new champion. However, Fit Finlay reclaimed the title from Leslie on July 11th.
On October 27th, Leslie teamed up with Tatanka to defeat William Regal and Dave Taylor, but after the match, Tatanka attacked Leslie, sparking a feud that never materialized as Tatanka was released from WWE. On November 14th, at an ECW show in England, Leslie attacked Hardcore Holly, who wanted to secure the final spot in the Extreme Elimination Chamber match at the December To Dismember event. Later, Leslie signed a contract to face the ECW Champion, Big Show, at the event.
In the match, Leslie and Big Show were the last two participants, and Leslie emerged as the winner, capturing the ECW Heavyweight Championship. Two days later, Leslie successfully defended his title against Big Show by performing a Body Slam on him. Shortly after, Leslie defended his title against Test at the Royal Rumble 2007 event and emerged victorious.
Before WrestleMania 23, Leslie was chosen as the representative of Donald Trump in his feud against Vince McMahon. He faced Umaga in a match, with the stipulation that the manager of the losing competitor would be shaved bald. Stone Cold Steve Austin served as the special guest referee.
