Early Life and Career
Boris Amarantov was born on September 19, 1940, into a family with a history of clergy. After multiple attempts, he finally gained admission to the State School of Circus and Variety Arts (GUTSEI) in Moscow in 1962. His unique performance titled "Ke-la-la," inspired by the song of the same name, earned him instant recognition and a laurel at the VIII World Festival of Youth and Students in Helsinki that same year.
Rise to Fame and Political Troubles
Amarantov's success continued with the creation of his own pantomime theater and a groundbreaking performance entitled "Miracles in a Suitcase." However, his career faced setbacks due to political intrigues. Despite regaining employment, Amarantov was eventually fired due to pressure from high-ranking officials in the Ministry of Culture. Forced to abandon his profession, he resorted to working as a night watchman.
Emigration and Career Abroad
In 1977, Amarantov emigrated to the United States. Despite initial expectations, his acting career did not flourish. He relocated to France, where he studied under the esteemed mime Marcel Marceau and joined his troupe. Amarantov found success on international tours.
Return and Tragic End
With the onset of perestroika, Amarantov returned to the Soviet Union in hopes of resuming his directing career. Tragically, he died under unexplained circumstances on March 3, 1987. He is laid to rest at the Vostryakovskoye Cemetery.
