Boris Gelfand: An Israeli Chess Grandmaster

Early Life and Chess Beginnings

Boris Gelfand, an Israeli chess grandmaster, was born in Minsk, Belarus, in 1968. His father introduced him to chess at the tender age of six.

Chess Achievements

As a child, Gelfand's talent for chess became evident. He emerged as the Soviet Union's champion and, in 1990, captured the World Under-12 Championship title.

Move to Israel

In 1995, Gelfand and his family emigrated to Israel. He settled in Beersheba, where he has resided ever since.

International Career

From 1998 onwards, Gelfand became a regular member of the Israeli national team. He represented his adopted country at five Chess Olympiads, earning a gold medal in 1998 and a bronze medal in 2006.

Club Play and National Championships

Gelfand competes for the Beersheba Chess Club in international competitions. Additionally, he has been Israel's national champion multiple times, including in 2000.
