Biography of Boris Beridze
Boris Beridze is a Russian judoka and a Master of Sports in judo of international class. He was born on April 2, 1953, in Vale, Georgian SSR. Beridze also holds the title of Master of Sports of the USSR in sambo and is an international category sumo referee.
Education and Expertise
Beridze graduated from the Moscow State Institute of Physical Culture in 1986, where he studied physical education and became a wrestling coach. He is skilled in Greco-Roman wrestling, freestyle wrestling, sumo, and the Russian style of hand-to-hand combat. Beridze is a top-level coach and a highly experienced methodologist.
Achievements
Beridze has a long list of achievements in judo. He is a nine-time Moscow judo champion, a three-time champion of the All-Union Voluntary Society of Physical Culture and Sports, and a multiple medalist of the USSR Championships and the USSR Cup. He won the championship at the international tournament "Prizes of the Sports Committee" at the 9th Spartakiad of the Peoples of the USSR in 1979. Beridze also received a bronze medal at the World Student Championship as part of the Soviet team.
He has been a member of the Soviet Olympic judo team and has participated in numerous international tournaments, including being a champion and silver medalist in Tbilisi, Georgia. Beridze was the bronze medalist in the unofficial World Championship dedicated to the 99th anniversary of Jigoro Kano in Japan in 1978. He has also won multiple championships and medals in "Category A" international tournaments in France and other countries.
Since 2008, Beridze has competed in judo among veteran masters and has become a three-time Russian champion, a five-time European champion, and a four-time World champion.
Post-Sporting Career
In 2001, Beridze took on the role of chairman of the public organization "Defense Sports and Technical Organization of the Tagansky District" in Moscow, which focuses on military-patriotic education and physical training of youth for military service. He is also the Vice President and Executive Director of the regional public organization "Moscow Union of Judo Veterans," which aims to support the social protection of judo veterans, prolong their active sports life, pass on their experience to the younger generation, and enhance the prestige of Moscow judo in Russia and internationally.
Other Experiences
Prior to his judo career, Beridze served in the Border Troops on the Chinese border. He also worked at the Lenin Komsomol Automobile Plant. From 1985 to 1990, Beridze coached the Soviet national judo team in Moscow and was responsible for the development of judo in the city. He established the first Olympic training center for judo in Moscow and led the Moscow judo team to consistently improve their ranking, from 11th-13th place to 3rd-4th place in the USSR.
Under his leadership, the Moscow judo team became the silver medalist in the USSR Cup, losing only to the Russian team. After ten years, the Moscow judoists became champions and medalists in the USSR Championships, USSR Cups, and European Championships in both men's and women's categories.
