Early Life and Education

Boris Mikhailovich Davidson was born on March 22, 1919, in Snovsk, Ukraine. As the eldest son of four brothers, he pursued his passion for architecture at the Kyiv Engineering and Construction Institute in 1936. However, his studies were interrupted by the outbreak of World War II.

Military Service and Post-War Career

In 1941, Davidson was drafted into the army and assigned to the Main Directorate of Aerodrome Construction of the NKVD. From 1944 onward, he played a pivotal role as the chief of construction for airfields in various cities during the war. After the war ended in 1945, he resumed his architecture studies at the Kyiv Institute, graduating with honors. He subsequently joined the Ural Polytechnic Institute (UPI) in 1951 as a lecturer in architecture.

Academic Pursuits and Achievements

In 1952, Davidson completed his doctoral dissertation, earning a PhD in Architecture. His research focused on the Architecture of the Regional House of Folk Art in Ukrainian SSR. In 1956, he became a member of the Union of Architects of the USSR. Throughout his career, he dedicated himself to the study of constructivism in Sverdlovsk architecture. In 1967, he established the Department of Architecture at UPI within the Ural branch of the Moscow Architectural Institute. Later, in 1986, he successfully defended his doctoral dissertation entitled "Housing Architecture and the Local Climate (Using the Ural Region as an Example)."

Professional Recognition and Legacy

Davidson's academic excellence was recognized with the prestigious title of Professor in April 1987. He continued his work as head of the Department of Architecture for Residential and Public Buildings until his passing. He left behind a legacy of influential students, including Vasily Ivanovich Zherdev and Matveev Mikhail Gavrilovich.

Family and Personal Life

Davidson was surrounded by a family of accomplished individuals. His brother, Aron Mikhailovich Davidson, earned a doctorate in technical sciences and became a professor. Yaakov Mikhailovich Davidson served as a lieutenant colonel in the military, while Abram Mikhailovich Davidson worked as an engineer. Davidson's remains rest in the Shirokorechenskoye Cemetery in Yekaterinburg. A portion of his architectural works can be found in the Museum of Architecture and Design in the Urals.

Throughout his career, Davidson's contributions to architecture were acknowledged with five prestigious government awards.
