Boris Veniaminovich Gromov was a distinguished Soviet scientist and educator who played a pivotal role in the development of the country's nuclear industry.

Prominent Roles

Gromov served as the chief engineer and director of the first radiochemical plant in the USSR, known as "Plant B" at Combine No. 817 under the First Main Directorate (FGU). His leadership and technical expertise enabled the facility to successfully implement the industrial concentration of plutonium from irradiated uranium, a groundbreaking achievement in 1949.

Academic and Scientific Accomplishments

Recognized for his groundbreaking contributions, Gromov received the Hero of Socialist Labor award in 1949, the State Prize, and the title of Doctor of Technical Sciences. He became a professor and an Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation. In 1956, he took on the role of head of department at the Mendeleev Moscow Institute of Chemical Technology.

Prestigious Recognition and Honors

In acknowledgment of his exceptional service, Gromov was awarded the Hero of Socialist Labor title by the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR in October 1949. The award was accompanied by the Order of Lenin and the "Hammer and Sickle" gold medal. Additionally, Gromov was bestowed with numerous other orders and medals of the Soviet Union.
