Biography of Boris Litvinchuk
Boris M. Litvinchuk, a fighter pilot and Guards Captain, was born on June 1, 1917, in Adzhikabul station, now the city of Kazi-Magomed (Azerbaijan), in a working-class family. He lived in the cities of Kazi-Magomed, Tbilisi, and Batumi. After completing the 7th grade of secondary school and the vocational school in Tbilisi, he worked as a lathe operator at an automotive repair plant. After graduating from the Batumi Aero Club, he worked as a pilot-instructor there. He joined the Naval Aviation in 1937 and graduated from the Eisk Naval Aviation School for Pilots in 1938. He served in the 94th Squadron of the Black Sea Fleet Air Force. Since June 1941, he fought on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. By April 1944, Litvinchuk became the commander of the 11th Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment's squadron (1st Mine-Torpedo Aviation Division, Black Sea Fleet Air Force). He completed 450 combat sorties and personally shot down 16 enemy aircraft in 44 air battles. On May 16, 1944, he was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union for his courage and military valor in battles against the enemy. In total, he completed 459 successful combat sorties, shooting down 18 aircraft personally and 9 in a group with his comrades. He participated in the defeat of militarist Japan in 1945. In 1950, he graduated from the Higher Flight and Tactical Courses, and in 1955, he graduated from the Naval Academy. Since 1961, Colonel B. M. Litvinchuk was in reserve. He lived in Kaluga (house number 37 on Sofia Perovskaya street) and worked as the Deputy Director of Human Resources at a turbine plant. He was awarded the Orders of Lenin, Red Banner (thrice), First Class Patriotic War (twice), Red Star, and 12 medals.
