Early Life and Club Career

Božo Broketa was born in Dubrovnik, Yugoslavia. His footballing journey began at hometown club GOŠK. During World War II, he played for NK Uskok in Zagreb. In 1945, he joined Hajduk Split.

Initially a goalkeeper, Broketa eventually settled into a left-back role. For over a decade, he was a defensive stalwart for Hajduk. His partnership with Ljubomir Kokeza was renowned as one of the strongest in Yugoslavia.

In 493 appearances, Broketa scored 70 goals and helped Hajduk secure three Yugoslav championships (1950, 1952, 1955).

End of Career and International Debut

Seeking a new challenge, Broketa moved to Ajax Amsterdam in 1958. Age caught up with the veteran defender, as he made only four appearances. He retired in 1959.

Broketa made his international debut for Yugoslavia in 1947 against Czechoslovakia. He represented his country twice more that year, including a 4-2 away win over Albania.

Balkan Cup and Olympic Success

In 1948, Broketa was a member of Yugoslavia's Balkan Cup squad but did not play in the eventual draw against Albania.

Later that year, Broketa joined the Olympic team for the London Games. Although he did not feature in any matches, Yugoslavia won the silver medal.

World Cup and Retirement

Broketa's final international appearance came at the 1950 World Cup in Brazil. He was an unused substitute in Yugoslavia's opening 3-0 win over Switzerland. The team finished second in their group but failed to advance.
