Biography of Brandon Edwin Cruz
Brandon Edwin Cruz is an American actor and punk rock musician, best known for his role as Eddie Corbett in the popular television series "The Courtship of Eddie's Father". He was born in Bakersfield, California and later moved to Silver Strand Beach. At the age of five, Cruz auditioned for the role of Eddie Corbett and won the role brilliantly. The show aired from 1969 to 1972 on the ABC network. During the filming, Cruz developed a close friendship with his on-screen father, Bill Bixby, who played Tom Corbett. They continued to stay in touch even after the show went on hiatus, and Cruz considered Bixby to be like a second father to him.
Transition to Music
After the series ended, Cruz continued to act, primarily in guest roles. He appeared in shows such as "Kung Fu", "Gunsmoke", and "The Incredible Hulk". In the 1980s, Cruz shifted his focus to music and became a part of the hardcore punk band "Dr. Know". The band released several records, but disbanded in 2010. From 2001 to 2003, Cruz served as the lead vocalist for the "Dead Kennedys" and was even interviewed for the documentary film "American Hardcore: The History of American Punk Rock, 1980-1986". Cruz has stated that music, along with surfing, helped save his life, as he was aware of the tragic stories of many child stars in the film industry.
Awards and Later Career
In 1991, Cruz received the "Former Child Star 'Lifetime Achievement' Award" from the Young Artist Foundation for his role as Eddie. By that time, Cruz had returned to television and worked as an assistant editor on various shows, including the popular animated series "South Park". In the 1990s, he actively participated in the project "A Minor Consideration", a support group for former and current child stars.
Personal Life
In June 1994, Cruz married actress Liz Cruz, and they later had a son and a daughter.
