Brett Stibners: Australian Wheelchair Basketball Icon
Early Life and AccidentBrett Stibners was born in a suburb of Wollongong, Australia. In 2001, a devastating car accident resulted in the amputation of his left leg above the knee, seemingly crushing his sporting aspirations.

Resilience and Wheelchair Basketball
Despite the setback, Stibners refused to give up. In 2003, he made the transition to wheelchair basketball, becoming a formidable forward. He quickly established himself as a key player in the Australian national team.

International Success
Stibners' international debut came in 2003 at the Gold Cup in Amsterdam. His crowning glory came in 2008, when he won a gold medal at the Summer Paralympics in Beijing. He was subsequently awarded the Order of Australia Medal for his achievements.

Continued Success
Stibners continued to excel after the Paralympics. He won another gold medal at the Rollers World Challenge in 2009 and at the Paralympic World Cup in Manchester in 2010. He also claimed a gold medal at the World Wheelchair Basketball Championship in 2010.

National Achievements
Stibners played in the Australian National Wheelchair Basketball League for Wollongong Roller Hawks from 2002. He led the team to victory in the 2003 championship. After a brief stint in Spain, he returned to Rollerhawks in 2010 and helped them win the championship again in 2011.
Other Endeavors
Beyond basketball, Stibners has also ventured into public speaking. In November 2008, he shared his story with Brendan Fowler at an event hosted by the Sydney Business School.
