Biography of Brian Bailey

Brian Bailey, a renowned fashion designer, was born in rural Alberta, Canada. Growing up in a family of five brothers, Brian began his fashion career in men's retail clothing. In 1981, he moved to Toronto to study fashion design at Ryerson Polytechnic University.

Early Career

While still a student, Brian started working at The Hudson's Bay Company, where he later promoted his own label. In 1983, he was hired by the House of Cowan to develop a clothing line under the brand 'Bernard Cowan.' By 1988, Bailey had established himself as a prominent Canadian designer and launched his own label within the House of Cowan.

Establishing his Own Company

In 1992, Brian Bailey founded his own company called 'Iscariot Design.' The company now sells under the label 'Brian Bailey' in Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom. In the early 2000s, Bailey opened two boutiques in Toronto. Since then, his collections have been featured in major department stores in North America, including Bloomingdale's, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom, Holt Renfrew, as well as Harrods and Selfridges in the UK.

Design Philosophy

In 2007, Brian Bailey focused on creating clothing for everyday Canadian women that is comfortable and suitable for daily wear. His simple yet elegant designs highlight the natural curves of the female body. Notably, Bailey is one of the few Canadian designers who work with all sizes of women's clothing, including plus sizes.

Besides everyday wear, Bailey also designs and produces wedding dresses, evening gowns, and corporate uniforms. His designs are available for purchase online and through television shopping channels.

Contributions to the Fashion Industry

Brian Bailey held the position of President of Designers Ontario and represented Ontario designers at the federal level in Toronto. He also played a significant role in showcasing Canadian collections through the Toronto Ready-to-Wear Canadian Designer Collections.

Recognized for his design talent, Bailey has received several awards in the fashion and design industry. In 1994, he was honored with the 'Industry Award' for his fashion achievements.

Television Appearance

In 2007, Brian Bailey was invited by supermodel Iman to serve as a mentor on the Canadian television project 'Project Runway Canada,' a reality show about fashion.
