Her maternal grandfather was a professional pilot who had distinguished himself during World War I, and her aunt, Sallie Spalding, was a renowned and talented screenwriter.

From a young age, Langton had a love for the sea and wanted to pursue a career in marine biology. She attended the University of San Diego to study this field.
