Lauren Velez is an American actress of Puerto Rican descent. She was born on November 2, 1964, in Brooklyn. Lauren is the twin sister of actress Loraine Velez.

Early Life and Acting Career

Lauren and her twin sister Loraine were the eighth and ninth children in their family. Both girls aspired to become actresses from a young age and often used their resemblance to each other to their advantage. Loraine would often stand in for Lauren on the theatrical stage until she moved to London.

Lauren's first stage experience was in elementary school when she performed in a play during second grade. In her high school years, she was awarded a scholarship to the Alvin Ailey dance school, which led to her landing a role in the musical "Dreamgirls."
