Biography of Bruno Massot

Bruno Massot is a German figure skater who previously competed for France. He currently participates in pairs skating, representing Germany alongside Aliona Savchenko. Massot and Savchenko have achieved great success together, winning two silver medals at the European Championships (2016, 2017), a silver medal at the World Championships (2017), a bronze medal at the World Championships (2016), and two German national titles (2016, 2018).

Early Career in France
Before partnering with Savchenko, Massot competed in singles skating. However, he soon switched to pairs skating and teamed up with Camille Foucher. With Foucher, Massot won two bronze medals at the French national championships and made his international debut at the Junior World Championships in Bulgaria. After parting ways with Foucher, Massot partnered with Daria Popova. They won the French national title together and competed at both the World and European Championships. They also qualified to compete at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, but Popova's lack of French citizenship prevented them from participating. This influenced Massot's decision to change federations.

Transition to Germany
After the 2014 World Championships, the leading German pair, Robin Szolkowy and Aliona Savchenko, announced their separation. Szolkowy decided to retire, while Savchenko intended to continue her career. She approached Massot, offering him the opportunity to end his partnership with Popova and prepare for the 2018 Olympics in Korea with her. They planned to be coached by Ingo Steuer. However, Steuer later parted ways with the new duo, and Alexander König became their coach. While Massot and Savchenko wanted to compete for Germany, the French federation initially hindered Massot's ability to represent the neighboring country. It was not until late October 2015 that the federations reached an agreement, and the new pair made their debut in November at a tournament in Tallinn, Estonia. They were victorious, winning first place. They continued their success with victories at the Warsaw Cup and the German championships. They also won silver medals at the European Championships in Bratislava and the Bavarian Cup. At the 2016 World Championships in Boston, they became the top European pair, winning bronze medals and improving their overall scores.

Continued Success and Olympic Qualification
In the lead-up to the 2018 Olympics, Massot and Savchenko had strong performances, winning the Nebelhorn Trophy in Oberstdorf and the Rostelecom Cup in Moscow. They also emerged victorious at the Trophée de France in Paris and qualified for the Grand Prix Final in Marseille. However, a week before the final, Savchenko suffered an injury, forcing the pair to withdraw from both the final and the national championships. Despite this setback, they went on to win a silver medal at the European Championships in Ostrava and another silver medal at the World Championships in Helsinki. These achievements secured two Olympic spots for their country.

Recent Performances
In September, Massot and Savchenko won silver at the Nebelhorn Trophy in Oberstdorf. They followed this with another silver medal at the Canadian Grand Prix. At the German national championships in Frankfurt, they claimed the title of champions.
