BRUTTO &65288;BRUTTO NOSTRA: A Punk-Rock Resurrection
Genesis of a New EraOn September 1, 2014, the embers of the iconic punk-rock band Lyapis Trubetskoy gave rise to BRUTTO （BRUTTO NOSTRA. Led by former frontman Sergei Mikhalok, this new venture emerged as a defiant departure from its predecessor. The initial lineup remained uncertain, with three key members opting to pursue a separate project called Trubetskoy.
Art-Brut, Hit-Core, and Poetic Anarchy
BRUTTO （BRUTTO NOSTRA boldly declared their artistic vision: "art-brut, hit-core, punk power-lifting for children and madmen." Their lyrics renounced pretentiousness and celebrated simplicity, claiming to be "musical Nike and poetic IKEA."
Debut Album and Expansion
September 12, 2014 marked the release of BRUTTO's debut album, "Underdog." A re-release followed in March 2015, featuring bonus tracks including rearranged versions of Lyapis Trubetskoy favorites and new material. The band's energetic live performances extended beyond Belarus, captivating audiences across Europe.
Clash with The Exploited and Redemption
In June 2015, The Exploited's frontman Wattie Buchan withdrew their participation from a festival due to allegations against BRUTTO. However, days later, The Exploited recanted, expressing a desire to perform alongside them. Despite this, the festival organizers maintained their rejection of The Exploited.
Introspective Evolution
With the release of their second album, "Rodny Krai" (Native Land), in September 2015, BRUTTO （BRUTTO NOSTRA showcased a shift towards more introspective and nuanced lyrics. Mikhalok declared a return to the poetic depth he had previously abandoned.
Hiatus and Revived Activity
In 2018, BRUTTO （BRUTTO NOSTRA temporarily suspended operations to accommodate the resurgent popularity of Lyapis-98 and Drezden. However, in late 2020, the band re-emerged, much to the delight of their loyal fanbase.
Recent Releases and Memorial
February 2023 marked the release of a new single, "Melkhior i Kaspar," while October 2023 brought a poignant tribute song, "Brats," dedicated to the late Sergey Korolev (Brazil), a former vocalist who succumbed to cancer in 2021.
