Her family made an effort to keep their children away from the entertainment industry, discouraging television and encouraging outdoor activities and the pursuit of passions.
Early Career
Despite her family's efforts, Bryce began acting in her father's films at the age of seven. She mentioned that family friend Tom Cruise babysat her, her twins, and Reed occasionally. Bryce grew up in Westchester County, New York, and on a farm in Greenwich, Connecticut. She attended Stagedoor Manor, a theater camp with actress Natalie Portman.

The film was a commercial success and earned Bryce several award nominations for Breakthrough Performance.
Transition to Leading Roles
Following her breakthrough, Bryce replaced Nicole Kidman in Lars Von Trier's "Manderlay," a sequel to "Dogville." She then returned to Shyamalan for the lead role in the fantasy "Lady in the Water" as a mysterious sea nymph. While the film was not a critical or commercial success, Bryce's performance in the 2006 Kenneth Branagh adaptation of "As You Like It" earned her a Golden Globe nomination.
Further Film Career
In addition to her acting roles, Bryce wrote and directed the 2006 short film "Orchids." She starred in the blockbuster "Spider-Man 3" as Gwen Stacy, performing her own stunts while several months pregnant. She replaced Claire Danes in "Terminator Salvation" and played the lead role in the 2009 drama "The Loss of a Teardrop Diamond."
