Early Life and Club Career
Bülent Korkmaz was born in Istanbul, Turkey, and began his football career as a defender for the iconic Galatasaray S.K. He spent his entire playing career at the Istanbul powerhouse, winning eight Süper Lig titles (1987/88, 1992/93, 1993/94, 1996/97, 1997/98, 1998/99, 1999/00, 2001/02), six Turkish Cups (1990/91, 1992/93, 1995/96, 1998/99, 1999/2000, 2004/05), and five Turkish Super Cups (1988, 1991, 1993, 1996, 1997).
Internationally, Korkmaz made significant contributions to Galatasaray's historic UEFA Cup triumph in 1999/2000 and the UEFA Super Cup victory in 2000. His impressive six Turkish Journalists' Association Cups (1987/88, 1991/92, 1992/93, 1997/98, 1998/99, 1999/00) further attest to his remarkable career as a player.
Coaching Career
After retiring from playing, Korkmaz embarked on a coaching career, leading several Turkish clubs. He initially coached Kayseri Erciyesspor, Bursaspor, and Gençlerbirliği. In 2023, he replaced Michael Skibbe as manager of Galatasaray, his former club.
Achievements as Manager
Despite signing a contract for one and a half years with Galatasaray, Korkmaz's tenure as manager was short-lived. Under his leadership, the team faced an early exit from the UEFA Europa League against Hamburg and fell short in the Süper Lig title race, finishing fifth.
National Team Career
Korkmaz also represented the Turkish national team as a defender. He played a crucial role in Turkey's historic triumph at the 2002 FIFA World Cup, where the team clinched third place, and in the 2003 FIFA Confederations Cup, where they also secured third place.
