Cadwallon ap Ieuaf
Cadwallon ap Ieuaf was a Welsh king who ruled the kingdom of Gwynedd from 985 to 986. He was the son of Ieuaf ap Idwal and the brother of Hywel ap Ieuaf.
Accession to the Throne
Upon the death of his brother Hywel ap Ieuaf in 985, Cadwallon became king of Gwynedd. However, his reign was short-lived.
Death and Succession
In 986, Cadwallon was killed by Maredudd ab Owain, king of Deheubarth, who invaded Gwynedd. According to the Chronicle of the Princes of Wales, Maredudd conquered Cadwallon's territory, including the island of Anglesey (Môn) and Meirionydd, and "acted violently and deceitfully" throughout Gwynedd.
The Gwentian Chronicle provides a slightly different account, stating that Owain ap Hywel Dda, Cadwallon's half-brother, "led a great army into Gwynedd" in 985, and both Cadwallon and his brother Meurig were killed in battle.
