Archbishop Sean Brady
Early Life and OrdinationSean Brady was an Irish cardinal who served as the Bishop of Ardagh and Clonmacnois from May 26, 1967, to August 24, 1982. He was ordained as a priest in 1950 and served in various pastoral roles before his episcopal consecration.
Episcopal Ministry
In 1982, Brady was appointed Bishop of Down and Connor, a diocese he led for eight years. During his tenure, he oversaw the implementation of reforms following the Second Vatican Council. In 1990, he was elevated to the Archdiocese of Armagh, the primatial see of the Catholic Church in Ireland.
Cardinalate
On June 28, 1991, Brady was created a cardinal by Pope John Paul II and given the titular church of S. Patrizio. As a cardinal, he participated in papal conclaves and served as a member of various Vatican congregations and councils. He retired from active ministry in 2014.
Legacy
