Kathleen Kirnan was born on May 26, 1964, in Skerries, Ireland. At an early age, she moved to the United States with her mother. Kirnan's first published work was the short story "Persephone" in 1995. Her debut novel, "The Five of Cups," was written between 1992 and 1993 but was first published in 2003.
