Antonie Pannekoek
Antonie Pannekoek, a Dutch Marxist, was a prominent theorist of "council communism" (Rätekommunismus). Hailing from a middle-class background, Pannekoek joined the International Communist Groups (GIC) in 1934.
Revolutionary Activism
Throughout the 1930s, Pannekoek contributed to various communist and syndicalist publications. In 1940, he was captured during military service, which led to his imprisonment during World War II.
Post-War Journalism
After the war, Pannekoek worked as a journalist for the publication "Utrecht." From 1952 onwards, he collaborated with Anton Pannekoek in the Communistenbond Spartacus (Communist League Spartacus).
Critique of Bolshevism
Pannekoek vehemently criticized the Bolsheviks' mystification of state socialism. He maintained a consistent critique of the state, advocating for class struggle rather than the bureaucratic control implemented by the Bolsheviks.
Pioneering Critic
Notably, Pannekoek was one of the first to critique the myth surrounding China's "Cultural Revolution." Through his writings, he challenged authoritarian regimes and promoted a vision of workers' self-emancipation.
