Calvin Smith was born on December 10, 1987, in Gainesville, USA. He is an American track and field athlete specializing in short distance running. Calvin comes from a family of athletes, with his father being the Olympic champion Kelvin Smith Sr. Growing up, Calvin was greatly influenced by his father's titles and achievements, motivating him to pursue a career in sports.
Early Life and Education
Calvin Smith received his education at Cardinal Gibbons High School. He was known as one of the strongest and fastest athletes in school, consistently participating in competitions and showcasing excellent physical fitness and outstanding results. Through hard work and constant training, Calvin was able to achieve great heights at a young age.
Achievements and Career
After high school, Calvin Smith enrolled at the University of Florida, where he plans to graduate in 2010. He started competing in major events in 2006, at the age of 19. Quickly, he climbed up the ranks in many American championships. He placed third in the 200 meters race and fourth in the 400 meters race at the USA Juniors Championship. Smith finished sixth in the semifinals of the World Junior Championships in the 200 meters race, with a time of 21.46 seconds. He also won gold in the 4x100 meters relay at the World Junior Championships. Smith achieved his best time of 21.20 seconds in the 200 meters race and 46.17 seconds in the 400 meters race that year.
In 2007, Calvin Smith finished seventh in the NCAA Outdoors Championship and eighth in the 4x400 meters relay. He also became the champion in the NACAC competition, running the 400 meters in 45.52 seconds. His best result in the 400 meters distance that year was 45.52 seconds. In 2008, Smith made his debut at the Olympic Games in Beijing, qualifying with a time of 45.57 seconds in the 400 meters race. He also achieved fifth place in the NCAA Outdoors Championship and eighth place in the NCAA Outdoors Championship in the 4x400 meters relay.
Currently, Calvin Smith is training under the guidance of coach Mike Holloway.
