Leonard Komon - Kenyan Long-Distance Runner
Leonard Patrick Komon is a Kenyan long-distance runner, known for his exceptional talent and numerous victories in various competitions. Although he has never won a gold medal in the World Championships, his contributions to his team have been significant. Komon holds the current world records for the 10 and 15-kilometer tracks.

Early Life and Career
Leonard Komon was born in Cheptais, near Mount Elgon in Kenya. He first gained recognition in 2006 when he won the silver medal in the junior category at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships. Two years later, Komon repeated his success in the adult category.

Victories and Records
In 2008, Komon secured his victory at the Cross Internacional de Soria. The following year, he narrowly missed winning a bronze medal at the World Championships, finishing only one second behind the third-place runners. However, Komon's performances in Spain during the 2009-2010 season were remarkable. He achieved third place in the Cross de la Constitucion and won the Cross de Itálica and Cross de Elgoibar races.

In 2010, Komon was considered a strong contender for a medal at the World Championships in Poland. He remained in the leading group throughout the race but narrowly missed out on a podium finish, finishing fourth. Despite this, his performance contributed to the team winning the gold medal.
World Records
In September 2010, Leonard Komon set a new world record by completing the 10-kilometer distance in 26 minutes and 44 seconds in Utrecht, Netherlands. He improved the previous record by 17 seconds, becoming the first person to finish the distance in under 27 minutes. Komon continued to excel, winning the Grand 10 Berlin race with a time of 27 minutes and 12 seconds.
On November 21, 2010, Komon set his second world record of the year by completing the 15-kilometer distance in 41 minutes and 13 seconds. He surpassed the previous record by 16 seconds, previously held by Felix Limo and Deriba Merga.
Later Career
Despite his impressive achievements, Komon faced challenges in his career. In 2012, he suffered from a significant injury, which forced him to miss most of the year. He made a comeback in September, finishing fifth in the Memorial Van Damme 10-kilometer race.
In the following years, Komon experienced mixed results, winning some races but facing setbacks in others. He won the Dam tot Damloop race but finished second in the Zevenheuvelenloop, losing to Nicholas Kipkemboi. However, he ended the year on a positive note with a victory in the Peuerbach race.
In May of the following year, Komon won the UAE Healthy Kidney 10K race. However, he faced a decline in his career and did not qualify for the next World Championships.
Retirement
Komon's career eventually slowed down, and he made the decision to retire from professional running. Despite his setbacks, Leonard Komon's accomplishments and records will forever mark him as one of Kenya's most talented long-distance runners.
