Campbell Scott is an American actor, producer, and director. He was born in New York City, USA in 1961 to parents who were both actors, George C. Scott and Colleen Dewhurst. Scott attended Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin and graduated in 1983 with a Bachelor's degree in Theater and Dramatic Arts.
After graduating, Scott began his career in theater, honing his dramatic skills in various genre productions, ranging from classics to modern plays, on Broadway. Despite his talent, it took him some time to achieve significant acting success.
In 1987, Scott finally received his long-awaited invitation to the world of film. He landed a role in Tony Bill's "Five Corners," which, although not catapulting him to stardom, garnered the necessary attention for the budding actor.
In 1990, Scott appeared in several supporting roles in films such as Norman René's "Longtime Companion" and Bernardo Bertolucci's "The Sheltering Sky." These roles brought him recognition among film producers and audiences alike.
In 1991, Scott landed his first leading role in the film "Dying Young" directed by Joel Schumacher, starring opposite Julia Roberts. The following year, he appeared in Cameron Crowe's "Singles." His performance in Alan Rudolph's "Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle" earned him a nomination for an Independent Spirit Award.
In 1996, Scott expanded his career by venturing into producing. Alongside his friend Stanley Tucci, he co-produced and directed the critically acclaimed drama "Big Night," in which he also acted. The film was released in the same year and received positive reviews and box office success. It became a participant at the Sundance Film Festival and won several awards.
Scott continued his directing career with films such as "Hamlet" (2000), "Final" (2001), "Off the Map" (2003), and the 2009 film "Company Retreat."
Throughout his career, Scott has amassed an impressive list of acting credits, with approximately fifty notable roles. His older brother, Alexander Scott, is a writer and theater manager.
