Biography of Prince Carl Philip

Prince Carl Philip of Sweden is the only son and middle child of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden. As of 2012, he was third in line to the throne, after his older sister Crown Princess Victoria and his niece Estelle. However, he was the first in line according to the principles of succession of the United Nations.

In 1980, Carl Philip lost his title of Crown Prince and his first right to the throne due to the adoption of the principle of absolute primogeniture in Sweden, which granted equal rights to both men and women. As a result, he was moved down two positions in the line of succession.

Carl Philip has studied in several schools, including the Rhode Island School of Design. In 2011, he graduated from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences with a degree in agricultural management.

In his role as a member of the royal family, Carl Philip carries out various official duties on behalf of his father and sister. He is known for his love of sports, particularly athletics, football, swimming, and skiing. He even completed the Vasaloppet, a long-distance cross-country skiing race, in 2003.

Carl Philip also inherited his great-uncle Bertil's passion for auto racing and currently competes in the Cup Scandinavia races. He served in the artillery regiment of the airborne battalion and became a junior lieutenant in the Swedish Navy in 2004. He furthered his military education at the Swedish National Defense College, where he achieved the rank of lieutenant.

Apart from his athletic and military pursuits, Carl Philip has a keen interest in graphic design and painting. In 2003, he designed the cover for a ballet CD in celebration of his mother's 60th birthday. He has also created a calendar for the World Childhood Foundation, a charity organization.

In terms of personal life, Carl Philip dated PR specialist Emma Pernald from 1999 to 2009. In 2008, he was named the 9th hottest young royal by Forbes magazine. In 2010, it was confirmed that Carl Philip was in a relationship with model Sofia Hellqvist, and they later married in June 2015.
