Carlo Cabigiosu: Italian General and Peacekeeper
Early Life and Military ServiceCarlo Cabigiosu was born in 1939 in Brunico, Italy. After graduating from the military academy in Modena, he served in the Alpine Rifles units.
Leadership in the Alps
In 1976, Cabigiosu commanded the Alpine Brigade "Julia." He later held the post of commander of the Rome Military District in 1985.
Experience in the Balkans
As deputy commander of NATO's Rapid Reaction Corps in 1996, Cabigiosu participated in Operation "Joint Endeavour" in Sarajevo, where NATO forces aimed to reconcile Serbs, Croats, and Muslims.
Commanding KFOR in Kosovo
In a pivotal mission, Cabigiosu was appointed commander of KFOR, the peacekeeping contingent in Kosovo, amidst the ongoing conflict between Serbs and Albanians.
Diplomatic and Military Roles
After commanding the Rome Military District, Cabigiosu served as the military attaché at the Italian embassy in Bonn. In 1998, he became commander of the Southern Military District of Italy in Naples.
Educational Achievements and Family
Cabigiosu studied military strategy at the General Staff College in Camberley, United Kingdom. He is fluent in English and German. He is married to Elisabetta Milano and has three children: Elena, Claudia, and Sergio.
