Carlos Bianchi: Legendary Footballer and Coach
Early Life and Playing CareerCarlos Bianchi was an Argentinian football player and coach who enjoyed a remarkable career. He spent the majority of his playing days with Argentinian club Vélez Sarsfield and French club Stade de Reims. Bianchi was a prolific goalscorer, winning eight league top scorer titles in both France and Argentina.
Vélez Sarsfield and International Debut
Bianchi made his professional debut in 1967 for Vélez Sarsfield in a match against Boca Juniors. He became a regular in the starting eleven the following year, helping Vélez Sarsfield win their first ever Argentinian championship. In 1970, he scored 18 goals and won his first league top scorer title. The following season, he scored 36 goals in 36 matches, becoming the highest goal scorer since Bernable Ferreira and Arsenio Erico.
Stade de Reims and French Success
At the age of 24, Bianchi moved to Europe to play for Stade de Reims, who were looking for a replacement for Delio Onnis. Bianchi proved to be an even more formidable goalscorer, winning the French championship top scorer award three times. He was twice a contender for the "Golden Boot" award for the top goalscorer in European national leagues. In four seasons, he scored 107 league goals, the third-highest tally in the club's history.
Paris Saint-Germain and Strasbourg
Bianchi then moved to Paris Saint-Germain for two seasons, where he won the league top scorer award twice and the "Silver Boot" in 1978. He subsequently joined Strasbourg, the reigning French champions in 1979, but only played for one season before returning to his homeland.
Return to Vélez Sarsfield
Bianchi played for Vélez Sarsfield for another four and a half years. In 1981, the club reached the semi-finals of the national championship, and Bianchi won his third Argentinian league top scorer title (eighth overall, including France). He retired with an impressive goalscoring record of 206 goals in 324 appearances for Vélez Sarsfield, making him the club's all-time leading goalscorer.
International Career
Bianchi played 14 matches for the Argentina national team, scoring 7 goals between 1969 and 1972.
Coaching Career

He was also recognized as South American Coach of the Year five times.
