Biography of Cesare Prandelli

Cesare Prandelli is an Italian football player and coach, best known for his time as the head coach of the Italian national team. He was born on August 19, 1957, in Orzinuovi, Italy.

Football Career

Prandelli started his football career as a midfielder for the club "Cremonese" in 1974. He then moved to "Atalanta" in 1978 and later joined "Juventus" in 1979, where he played for six seasons and won the Serie A title three times. He returned to "Atalanta" in 1985 and retired there in 1990. Prandelli played a total of 197 matches in Serie A.

Coaching Career

After retiring as a player, Prandelli began his coaching career with the youth team of "Atalanta." He achieved great success with the team from 1990 to 1997, especially during his temporary stint as the interim head coach of the first team. He later went on to coach "Lecce," "Verona," and "Parma," gaining national recognition.

In the 2004/2005 season, Prandelli briefly left his coaching position at "Roma" due to family circumstances. He then took over as the head coach of "Fiorentina" in the 2005/2006 season, leading the team to a fourth-place finish in the league and qualification for the UEFA Champions League. Unfortunately, due to the Calciopoli scandal, "Fiorentina" and "Juventus" were both denied participation in the Champions League.

Prandelli continued to achieve success with "Fiorentina," securing fourth-place finishes in the following seasons and competing in the Champions League. After the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, he was appointed as the head coach of the Italian national team, leading the team to the finals of Euro 2012.

Recent Career

In 2014, Prandelli took over as the head coach of Turkish club "Galatasaray" but was later dismissed from his position. He remained without a coaching job for almost two years until he returned to coaching in October 2016, taking charge of struggling Spanish club "Valencia." However, he left the club after just three months due to disappointing results.

In May 2017, Prandelli became the head coach of "Al Nasr" and later took charge of "Genoa" in December 2018. He was appointed as the head coach of "Fiorentina" for the second time in November 2020 but resigned from his position in March 2021.

Personal Life

Prandelli was married to his wife Manuela for over 20 years until her passing in November 2007. They had two children together, a son named Niccolo and a daughter named Carolina. Prandelli's family tragedy deeply affected him and his coaching career.
