Early Career and International Debut

Carlos Gamarra was born on February 17, 1971, in Asunción, Paraguay. He began his football career with Sol de América in 1997, before moving to Argentine club Atlético Rafaela in 1998. After three seasons in Argentina, he returned to Paraguay in 2002 and joined Libertad.

From 2002 onwards, Gamarra cemented his place in the Paraguayan national team, making his debut at the World Cup that same year. He also participated in the 2006 World Cup and the 2007 Copa América.

Flourishing at Libertad

Gamarra's career flourished at Libertad, where he helped the club win three Paraguayan league titles (2002, 2003, 2006) and enjoyed success in international competitions. His impressive performances earned him a call-up to the Paraguayan squad for the 2002 World Cup.

Stints in Mexico and Return to Paraguay

In 2007, Gamarra and his Libertad teammate Cristian Riveros were acquired by Mexican club Cruz Azul. During his time in Mexico, he twice finished second in the league (2008). Gamarra returned to Paraguay in 2009 to join Club Olimpia, where he became captain.

Later Career and Titles

Gamarra continued to represent various Paraguayan clubs, including Libertad (2010-2012), Cerro Porteño (2013-2015), and Deportivo Capiatá (2017). He added two more Paraguayan league titles to his collection with Cerro Porteño in 2013 (Clausura) and 2015 (Apertura).
