Early Career at Colo-Colo

Caszely embarked on his professional journey in 1967 with Colo-Colo, a prominent Chilean club. He quickly established himself as a valuable asset, earning five league titles and three Copa Chile triumphs. Notably, Caszely played a crucial role in Colo-Colo's run to the Copa Libertadores final in 1973, becoming the tournament's top scorer.

Political Exile and European Stint

Following the military coup in Chile, Caszely, known for his leftist political views, joined Spanish club Levante in 1973. Despite his impressive goal-scoring record, the team was relegated to the third division. Nevertheless, Caszely's talent caught the attention of Espanyol, where he spent three seasons in the Spanish top flight.

International Career

Caszely made his international debut for Chile in 1969 and went on to represent his country for 47 matches, scoring 27 goals. He was a key player in two World Cups (1974 and 1982) and was named the best player at the 1979 Copa América, where he led Chile to the final. Notably, Caszely holds the dubious distinction of being the first player to receive a red card in a World Cup match, which occurred during the 1974 edition against West Germany.
