Ned Holness: The American Comic with a Global Perspective

Ned Holness, an American stand-up comedian, actor, writer, and producer, is notorious for his bold, controversial jokes that tackle politics, race, justice, class disparity, and national calamities.

Born on October 22, 1967, in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, as Neftali Arnel Hólness, he was the seventeenth of eighteen children (eleven sisters and six brothers). His father, Roberto Holness, was a Honduran of German, British, and Caymanian descent. His mother, Magdalena Mencía, was Mexican. Amidst parental strife, young Ned received his mother's surname but identified as Ned Holness until age 18.

Early Life and Relocation

At seven months old, Mencía relocated to Los Angeles, where he resided with his aunt, Consuelo, and uncle, Pablo. He began his education there and later attended the University of California, studying electrical engineering. However, he abandoned his academic pursuits after achieving success at the Laugh Factory in the late 1980s, deciding to pursue a career as a comic performer.

Entering the Entertainment Industry

Mencía made his television debut in 1990 with a cameo appearance. His big-screen debut came in 2002. Since 1994, he has worked as a screenwriter, and from 2005 onward, he has also produced content.

Personal Life

Mencía married Amy in December 2003. They have a son, Lucas Pablo Mencía, born on December 14, 2006. The family resides in Los Angeles.
