Meet Carol Horlock, the World's Most Prolific Surrogate Mother

Carol Horlock, a 46-year-old resident of Stevenage, Hertfordshire, UK, holds the title for being the most prolific surrogate mother in the world. She has served as a surrogate mother 13 times, bringing joy to childless couples by helping them fulfill their dreams of parenthood.

A Selfless Act of Love

For Carol, nothing brings her greater joy than seeing the pure happiness on the faces of the future parents as they hold their baby for the first time. This is the reason why she embarked on this journey of surrogacy – to give the gift of life to a new human being. However, she never anticipated just how challenging it would be this time around.

A Challenging Journey

Despite having previously given birth to triplets, Carol experienced the most difficult labor of her life with her thirteenth surrogacy. She had been feeling unwell for several days leading up to the birth, with high blood pressure. The labor lasted for 18 hours, and she ultimately had to undergo a cesarean section. Nevertheless, Carol's determination and resilience allowed her to bring a healthy baby boy into the world.

Passing on the Gift of Life

Within 24 hours of giving birth, Carol officially handed over the baby boy, whom she affectionately called 'Little Man', to the childless couple. It is unlikely that she will ever see him again. Despite the emotional challenges, Carol remains steadfast in her decision that this will be her last surrogacy.

A Life Transformed

In 1995, Carol was a 27-year-old single mother working in a self-service laundry. She had two daughters, Steffanie (now 22 years old) and Megan (now 19 years old). After reading an article in the newspaper about surrogacy, Carol decided to become a surrogate mother, realizing that it was her calling to help couples who couldn't have children of their own. This decision transformed her life completely.

The Joy of Pregnancy

Carol has given life to eight girls and five boys, including twins and triplets, since becoming a surrogate mother. While many women may not agree with her, Carol has always enjoyed the physical sensation of giving birth. For her, the process of bringing a child into the world has always been awe-inspiring and exhilarating.

A Selfless Act without Compensation

As surrogacy fees are illegal in the UK, Carol only receives reimbursement for her expenses, which typically amounts to £10,000-£15,000. She doesn't make any demands on the parents of the children she carries, except for an annual letter and photo to see how the babies are growing. Each child's photo is stored in a box on a farm near Bordeaux, France, where Carol currently resides with her partner of 14 years, Paul Brown.

Support from Loved Ones

Carol's partner and daughters have never had an issue with her decision to be a surrogate mother. They have been her pillars of support throughout this journey. While some families prefer to maintain a connection with Carol, others choose to lead separate lives. Ultimately, it is their choice to make.

A Well-Deserved Rest

After spending the last ten years of her life constantly pregnant, Carol is now ready for a well-deserved break. She looks back on her journey with fond memories, cherishing the faces of all the women she has helped become mothers.
