Education and Military Service
Carter Page graduated from the United States Naval Academy, where he was a member of the selective Trident Scholar program. He served as a Naval Intelligence Officer in Western Sahara. He earned an MBA from New York University and a PhD from the University of London.

Financial Career
Page worked as an investment banker at Merrill Lynch in London, New York, and Moscow from 2004 to 2008. In Moscow, he participated in transactions with Gazprom and collaborated with other leading energy companies. He founded Global Energy Capital in 2008, a private equity firm specializing in investments in the Russian and Central Asian oil and gas sector.

Political Involvement
In 2016, Page served as one of five advisors to Donald Trump on international policy. However, campaign officials stated he never met with Trump and was included as a consultant largely due to a lack of more experienced Republican foreign policy experts.

In 2016, Page visited Moscow and spoke at the Russian Economic School. He criticized U.S. foreign policy, particularly its focus on democratization and regime change. He also claimed the U.S. was "needlessly perpetuating a Cold War orientation" toward Russia.
Trump Campaign and Controversy
Page stepped down from his role in the Trump campaign in September 2016 amidst rumors of his contacts with senior Russian officials. U.S. intelligence agencies were investigating whether Page had "discussed the possible lifting of economic sanctions if the Republican candidate became president."
Page has denied the allegations, stating that he "never met anyone who has been named" in the reports and that such accusations are "unbelievable." He resigned from the campaign to avoid distractions.
Post-Campaign Activities
In October 2016, Page wrote an op-ed for Sputnik, a Russian state-owned news agency, criticizing the U.S. for its "abject disregard" of Russia's interests. He has continued to write and speak on international relations and energy policy.
