Biography of Casey Neistat

Casey Neistat is an American director, producer, actor, and author known for his work on the popular Internet video service YouTube. Born in Connecticut as the fifth child in a modest family, Neistat was expelled from school at the age of 15 and became a father at 17. For the next two years, he worked as a janitor in small restaurants to earn some money. In 2001, Neistat managed to move to New York, where he pursued his dream of making his own films.

While working as a courier and part-time in cafes and restaurants, Neistat and his brother came up with the idea to start making films. With no funds or formal education in film-making, they released their first film a few weeks later. Their works featured no special effects or realistic explosions; instead, they shot films on an ordinary camera, using a sheet of paper and a marker to compensate for their lack of graphic design knowledge.

The interest in the brothers' work grew, and in 2008, their own show, "The Neistat Brothers," was launched on HBO. Although the show was not considered a huge success, it was praised for its positive and lighthearted content. Alongside this project, Neistat continued to make his own films, which resembled episodes of a reality show. These short films depicted Neistat's life, his girlfriend, modern technology, and life in New York.

However, Neistat gained international recognition when his video titled "iPod's Dirty Secret" was uploaded to YouTube. The video exposed the short battery life of Apple devices and quickly gained thousands of views. This was followed by a series of other successful videos, such as "Chatroulette," which revealed the secrets of the video service, and "Emergency Brake in Subways," which discussed the proper use of emergency brakes in the New York City subway system.

Neistat enjoys tackling serious issues with a smile on his face. In his own words, "If someone pulls out a gun from their pants, you wouldn't want to be stuck with them in a subway car deep underground, right?"

To date, Neistat has uploaded over 60 videos on his YouTube channel, which have accumulated more than 27 million views. In addition to his online presence, Neistat works as a commercial director for major global companies. One of his notable works is the "Make It Count" video, which he directed for Nike. In this video, Neistat spent all the money on tickets and embarked on a 10-day journey across continents, wearing a Nike bracelet as a reminder of the company's sponsorship.

Aside from his work, Neistat is passionate about sports and frequently gives lectures in universities and schools, sharing the challenging story of his life. He often involves his son and close friends in the production of his videos. On February 18, 2013, Neistat married his girlfriend Candice, who has made frequent appearances in his works.
