Cat Stevens, a singer and songwriter, was born on July 21, 1946 in the United Kingdom. He began recording in 1966 and went on to release eight consecutive "gold" albums. In 1979, he converted to Islam and adopted the name Yusuf Islam, publicly announcing his departure from the pursuit of fame and applause. He sold all of his possessions, including his "gold" discs, at an auction.

During this period of spiritual freedom and tranquility, Stevens immersed himself in his pursuits until the late 1980s. Occasionally, he would embark on searches for non-existent enemies of Islam before returning to a state of lethargy. Stevens was one of the few cultural figures who supported the persecution of Salman Rushdie and his book "The Satanic Verses" by Islamist extremists, publicly endorsing the poet's execution.

In the 1990s, Stevens grew tired of idleness and began writing music again. However, his new works resembled parodies of his own popular hits.
