Early Life and Education
Born on April 1, 1949, Catherine Barbaroux hails from a family of Spanish descent. Her parents were originally from Asturias, where her grandparents worked as miners. Her father's political affiliation with the French Communist Party shaped her early upbringing.
Professional Journey
Catherine Barbaroux's political career began in 1981 when she became an advisor to Michel Crépeau, then Minister of Trade. She subsequently worked in human resources for several years before serving as an employment advisor to various ministers, including Martine Aubry, Élisabeth Guigou, François Fillon, and Jean-Louis Borloo, from 1999 to 2005.
Political Involvement
In 2005, Catherine Barbaroux was elected to the Île-de-France Regional Council, where she later became Director of Services. She also served as President of the Association Pour l'Entraide aux Initiatives Économiques (APES) from 2011 to 2017, an organization dedicated to supporting economic initiatives and employment.
Following the election of Emmanuel Macron as President of France in 2017, Catherine Barbaroux assumed the role of Acting President of the political movement En Marche! (Forward, Republic!).
