Tsai Ming-liang, a prominent figure in Taiwanese cinema, was born in Kuching, Malaysia on October 27, 1957. At the age of 20, he moved to Taiwan to pursue his education. In 1998, he graduated from the Department of Drama and Film at the Chinese Culture University in Taipei.

Filmmaking Career

After graduating, Tsai began his career in the film industry working as a producer, screenwriter, and television director in Hong Kong. His breakthrough came in 1994 when his film "Vive L'Amour" won the Golden Lion for Best Picture at the Venice Film Festival.
