Charles Edward Hugo was born in Portsmouth and has Filipino roots. He spent his childhood in Virginia, where he met Pharrell Williams during a summer camp after the seventh grade. The Rise of "The Neptunes"

Despite facing initial challenges in finding their audience, Chad and Pharrell remained determined to pursue a musical career.
