Chandra Bahadur Dangi - The Smallest Man in the World
Chandra Bahadur Dangi was born in 1939 in Kalimati, Salyan District, Nepal. He gained fame due to his small stature, which earned him a place in the Guinness World Records. Chandra stands at a height of 54.6 cm (21.5 inches), making him the smallest man in the world.
An Unexpected Record
In 2012, Chandra, who was 72 years old at the time, decided to challenge the record previously held by Gul Mohammed, an Indian man who stood at 60 cm tall. Craig Glenday, the editor-in-chief of Guinness World Records in Kathmandu, measured Chandra's height three times within a 24-hour period. As a result, Chandra officially became recognized as the "Smallest Man in the World."
A Remarkable Journey
Chandra, accompanied only by his determination, made the journey to submit his record-breaking application to Guinness World Records. He surpassed the record set by another individual, Jurney Balawing from the Philippines, by an inch. Chandra's achievement brought a great sense of pride not only to himself but also to his family, village, and country.
A Life in Rhimkholi
Chandra currently resides in the secluded mountain village of Rhimkholi, located 400 kilometers away from Kathmandu. He comes from a large family, with five brothers and two sisters. While his profession is weaving, Chandra also assists his family with tending to their livestock, including cows and buffaloes.
A Humble Optimist
Chandra's weight is proportional to his small stature, as he weighs only 14.5 kg (32 pounds). Despite his age, he claims to have never taken any medication and has never visited a doctor for a check-up. Before his recognition by Guinness World Records, Chandra was not considered particularly special in his family or village. However, his achievement has earned him great respect from those around him.
A Life Without Regrets
Chandra Bahadur Dangi has always been an optimist, never complaining about his life or feeling that nature has been unkind to him. If he was unable to do something due to his height, he would rely on others for assistance, and they would willingly help him. The only thing that saddens the 70-year-old Chandra is that he has never been able to marry due to his short stature.
A Philanthropic Endeavor
Following the recognition of his record, Chandra and his family decided to establish a charitable organization to support both him and the entire village. Despite his small size, Chandra's achievements have made a significant impact and brought a renewed sense of hope to his community.
