Early Life and Education
Charles Konan Banny was born on November 11, 1942, in Divou, Ivory Coast, to a Baoulé planter. He received his early education in Abidjan and later attended an economics school in Paris, graduating in 1968.
Career in Economics
After returning to Ivory Coast, Banny led a mission dedicated to stabilizing and supporting agricultural prices. In 1970, he moved to Paris to serve as the Secretary-General of the Inter-African Coffee Organization. In 1976, he joined the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO), where he rose through the ranks, eventually becoming its governor.
Political Transition
In 2011, amidst civil war and political unrest in Ivory Coast, Banny was appointed as Prime Minister of the Transitional Period. As a renowned technocrat, he was tasked with facilitating a peaceful transition of power.
