Early Life and Education

Born in Eton, Berkshire, on November 30, 1812, Charles Duke Yonge was the eldest of eight children born to Reverend Charles Yonge and Elizabeth Lord. He received his early education at Eton College and went on to become a Fellow of the King's College in Cambridge in 1831.

Academic Career

In 1834, Yonge moved to Oxford's St. Mary's Hall, which was later absorbed into Oriel College. He graduated with first-class honors in Classics in December 1834. In 1874, he received a Master of Arts degree from Keble College.

Yonge authored numerous works of modern history, including biographies of illustrious figures such as Marie Antoinette and Sir Thomas More. He also translated several classical works from Latin and Greek. His writings provide valuable insights into the social and political landscapes of his time.

Cricket Career

In 1836, Yonge represented Oxford University as a cricketer. During the season, he accumulated 85 runs in three matches and claimed one wicket. His contributions helped cement Oxford's dominance in the sport.
