Joannes Christyn (1625-1693) was a prominent figure in the world of Belgian history and genealogy. He served as the Chancellor of Brabant and authored numerous significant works.

Historical and Genealogical Contributions

Christyn's most notable work is his treatise "Heroic Justice, or On the Law of the Belgians" (1689). He also compiled a "Chronological Table of the Dukes of Lorraine, Brabant, Limburg, etc." (1669), which provided a detailed historical account of these regions. Additionally, he produced genealogical descriptions of seven prominent Antwerp families (1672) and a comprehensive study of the "Governors and Archistrategi of Belgium and Burgundy" (1675).

Unattributed Masterpiece

The "General History of the Netherlands" (1697) is attributed to Christyn, although it was published anonymously. This weighty volume offers a comprehensive overview of Dutch history.
