Early Life and Career
Charles Itandje, a French football goalkeeper, was born to Cameroonian parents. He initially represented France at the U-21 level before switching allegiance to Cameroon in 2013.
Liverpool Transfer
On August 9, 2007, Itandje was acquired by Liverpool to serve as backup to Pepe Reina. He made his debut in a League Cup match against Reading, where Liverpool triumphed 4-2.
Liverpool Performances
Itandje featured in four League Cup matches for Liverpool, showcasing his skills in a 0-2 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. He also stood in goal for the club in four FA Cup matches, most notably conceding only one goal in a replay against Luton Town.
Controversial Incident
In April 2009, Itandje was involved in a controversial incident at a Hillsborough disaster memorial, leading to his suspension from training and a subsequent investigation. This marked the end of his Liverpool career.
Subsequent Clubs
Itandje's contract with Liverpool was terminated on December 8, 2009. He subsequently signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with Greek club Atromitos on January 1, 2011.
Later Career
After a brief stint with Turkish club Adana Demirspor, Itandje has retired from international and club football.
