Biography of Charles Rocket
Charles Rocket was an American film and television actor, best known for his work on the show 'Saturday Night Live' and his role as villain Nicholas Andre in the film 'Dumb and Dumber'. He was also remembered for his portrayal of Dave Dennison in Disney's 'Hocus-Pocus' and the angel of death Adam in the series 'Touched by an Angel'.
Early Life and Career
Charles Adams Claverie, later known as Charles Rocket, was born in Bangor, Maine. In the late 1960s, he attended the Rhode Island School of Design. He then became involved in the music scene and became an important part of the underground culture of Rhode Island. He shared his musical talents with future Talking Heads frontman David Byrne and filmmaker Gus Van Sant.
Television and Film Career
Rocket's television career began with local news anchoring positions on Channel 12 WPRI and KOAA-TV in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and WTVF in Nashville. He later made his debut on the popular late-night show 'Saturday Night Live' in 1980. He was considered a combination of Bill Murray and Chevy Chase and became a regular cast member known for his versatility in various sketches. However, his time on the show was short-lived due to controversial content and low ratings.
Rocket quickly returned to acting and appeared in a number of well-known films, including 'Earth Girls Are Easy', 'Dances with Wolves', and 'Dumb and Dumber', often playing villainous roles. He also had notable television roles in shows such as 'Tequila and Bonetti', 'Moonlighting', and 'Touched by an Angel'.
Tragic End
On October 7, 2005, Rocket was found dead in a field near his home in Connecticut. His throat had been slit, and the investigation determined that he had died by suicide.
Despite his sudden departure from 'Saturday Night Live', Rocket continued to have a successful career in both film and television, leaving behind a legacy of memorable performances.
